Karen Kort

Karen Kort was first sworn in as a lawyer in 1998. She has worked primarily in criminal law for many years, including at Seebregts and Saey Criminal Lawyers, De Hef Lawyers, and the EU Mission in Kosovo. After doing volunteer work with asylum seekers on the Greek islands in 2015 and 2016, she decided to shift her focus to asylum law.

In 2022, Karen temporarily left the legal profession and traveled through Europe in a camper. After returning from this trip, she worked for almost a year and a half as an asylum and immigration law jurist at the INLIA foundation in Groningen. However, she was drawn back to the legal profession and started at Inigo Lawyers on July 1, 2024.

Karen speaks English and French, in addition to Dutch. You can consult her for all matters related to asylum and shelter. Karen will inform and advise you about your procedure at an early stage. If the IND rejects your application, she will of course also assist you during the procedure before the court(s). If you want to change lawyers during your procedure or if you want to submit a repeated application after a previous rejection, you can also contact her. Karen’s approach is characterized by great commitment, clear communication, and good accessibility.

Generally, asylum seekers are eligible for a contribution (government-subsidized legal aid). If this is not the case, price agreements can always be made in advance.

In addition to her work as a lawyer, Karen is chairwoman of the Kaamba Neere Foundation, a foundation that supports school children in West African Burkina Faso. She also occasionally works as an ‘international volunteer lawyer’ for asylum seekers in Greece and is still involved with the INLIA foundation. Furthermore, she enjoys films and documentaries, sports, and reading.
